If the Fast & Furious franchise is anything besides two decades of gully racing, brigandage, logic-defying stunts, and espionage, it’s family. Dom has never ceased to remind his crew of the ride-or-die vows of allegiance they have sworn to each other.
You don’t turn your back on family, even when they do.

F&F movies have always been well known for their ridiculously dangerous action sequences. Take for example the newest F9, which went as far as propelling our characters past the stratosphere!
While the theatrical releases mostly follow the chronology, the need for a tidy watch order still arises if you are new to this racing sphere. Unlike other guides circulating online, I have tried to make this one spoiler-free to a great extent.

1. Release Order (canon only)
The F&F family bonding set off right from the pilot film of 2001 when Brian O’Conner ran into Dominic Toretto while serving as an undercover cop. It has been one hell of a ride since then.
So long that we didn’t realize that the mainline series of movies is unfortunately coming to an end. The finale set for 2023-24 will be split into two parts, probably because there is so much ground to cover.
- The Fast and the Furious (2001)
- 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
- Fast & Furious (2009)
- Fast Five (2011)
- Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
- Furious 7 (2015)
- The Fate of the Furious 8 (2017)
- F9 (2021)
- Fast & Furious 10 (Untitled Part 1) (planned for Feb 2023)
- Fast & Furious 10 (Untitled Part 2) (planned for Feb 2024)
Apart from the official canon, there have been two short prelude films, an action-packed spin-off and an animated Netflix series named Spy Racers released till now:
2. Complete Release Order
The name of the first six-minute long The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious speaks for itself. Brian has to pay the price for his actions in the previous movie. He is now a wanted man, and travels across Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Florida to evade FBI capture.
Another short film named Los Bandoleros was released in 2009 as a prequel to Fast & Furious (2009). A little reunion, a rescue mission and a hijack plan blend together to form this 20 minute action drama.

A little bit of shuffling will be needed if you demand for the exact timeline of events in the Fast & Furious Saga. I have done that in chronological order below.
3. Where To Watch
4. Chronological Order (canon only)
Just switch the position of Tokyo Drift (2006) and Voilà! You now have a meaningful sequence of F&F installments.
While we did see a high schooler Sean eventually earning the title of drift king, the chief focus here is Han. He is presumed dead after the climax, but somehow gets resurrected in the latest movie F9.
How is this possible? Well, you will have to see the movies in this order to find out:
- The Fast and the Furious (2001)
- 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
- Fast & Furious (2009)
- Fast Five (2011)
- Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
- Furious 7 (2015)
- The Fate of the Furious 8 (2017)
- F9 (2021)
5. Complete Chronological Order
Subtle references from the movies suggest that the animated Spy Racers is also connected to the main franchise. Ms. Nowhere from the series seems to have a vague connection to the organization which also employs Mr. Nobody.
Tony (Dom’s cousin) once cited “If Dom can do it, so can I”, relating his building jump to similar scenes in Furious 7. Ice racing, ejector seats, etc are some of the ideas adopted directly from the movies.

6. How Much Time Will It Take To Watch
Considering all the 9 movies, one Spin-off, two short films, and one animated series, it will take you around 1 day and 10 hours to binge watch the entire Fast & Furious Saga.
Here’s an individual breakdown each installment wise:-
- Movies – 18 hours 22 mins
- TV Series – 12 hours 48 mins
- Spin-off and Short Films – 2 hours 40 mins
Note: These are approximate values of the runtimes.
