I'm in the market for a new tractor. I was going to start getting quotes with a rotary tiller included. But from my research on here, it always seems like the tillers are made by King Kutter with different paint jobs. Like the blue LS tillers. LS Tillers are made by Taylor Pittsburgh and Taylor Pittsburgh is owned by King Kutter. King Kutter also makes the red tillers for Mahindra. I also read that King Kutter makes the County Line tillers sold at TSC which are only $1700 for the 5 ft model. So my question is: If I get a quote for a tiller more than $1700 am I getting ripped off? Or am I missing something?

I know nothing about County Line tillers (or any other tillers for that matter). But, while it's possible that King Kutter makes identical models and just paints them different colors for different vendors, it's equally possible that they make different tillers to match the specifications of different companies.

Just like Bush Hog and other rotary mower companies make different lines of mowers (light duty, medium duty, heavy duty, etc.) Just because it's a Bush Hog brand doesn't mean it's the equal of every other Bush Hog mower.

King Cutter does not make all of TSC's implements. There's another maker but the name escapes me at the moment. Check the label for the maker on the tiller itself, the ones at my local TSC are not KK.

Around here in MA the TSC stores have Tarter brand name.

Yep, that's it. Most of the Tarter stuff looks identical to the KK stuff, and they come in the same County Line paint colors and decals.

Here's the tiller link. Rotary Tiller - Tarter Farm & Ranch

That said, I would consider buying a KK because the reputation is good and you can order parts directly from KK. Just make sure its really a KK. I bought my box blade at TSC thinking it was a KK but it turned out to be a Tarter.

I would recommend first decide what you are trying to do. Are you trying to get a King Kutter tiller at a big store price. If your trying to buy a King Kutter tiller then you should buy one that has a King Kutter name and decal on it. Your statement above is only partially correct. King Kutter does not make the Mahindra tillers. King Kutter has supplied some TS stores with tillers and so has other vendors. Sadly, many customers are finding out that SOME of the parts will not interchange. I have customers ordering parts for their TS tiller and using KK part numbers only to learn they are ordering the wrong parts. KEEP UP WITH THE SUPPLIED MANUAL SHOWING THE PART NUMBERS.

I think most implements at TS are cheap crap and they don't back their products. jmo

Find a Woods dealer. Go eyeball the tillers in all three ranges.
Then eyeball the wretched crap sold at TSC.

The Tillers sold under the LS sticker will have slight differences from the KK. Usually minor stuff.
Still solid, but you're not getting what you would from Woods.

Then consider dealer support, parts, and availability.
Weigh it all up while considering your use.

The cheapo TSC trash might be the better deal for a guy running 20-30hp on 2acres of loose ground twice a year.
**** sure don't hold up tilling an orchard of any size 3-4 times a year, behind a 50-100hp tractor.

The LS tillers are a bargaining point for the tractor dealers. They have a better margin on the impliments.
Always get them cornered on price without attachments first. Wait a day, and come back asking about tossing in other stuff.

The Local LS dealer has put a couple dozen of those tillers in the orchards around here.
They hold up just fine with heavy use(Abuse quite often) behind the 30-40hp tractors.
Just don't hook them up behind the 5525 and expect them to put up with munching prunings in the spring.

                    Good luck on the LS!!!
